Maternity Swimwear – What to Take on a Fall Vacation

Tuesday, April 10th, 2012

For those lucky expectant mothers who are taking a fall vacation to a warmer location, packing the right swimwear is important. Maternity swimwear is designed with the utmost comfort of the mother in mind, while maintaining a flattering and stylish look. For fall vacations, one’s choice in maternity swimwear is dependent on one’s goals and activities during one’s vacation. Whether you plan on having a highly active or totally relaxing time, there is the perfect swimsuit for your preference and personal style.

For those whose perfect fall vacation consists of staying active, whether that is through kayaking, swimming laps, or waterslides, a one-piece is a great option. A one-piece ensures stability and that one’s swimsuit will not slip or slide during activities. Although one-pieces are practical, they are also flattering and sexy. One stylish option is the 1 Piece Keyhole Maternity Swimwear from Maternal America. With an adjustable halter tie, it is able to be molded to fit your body perfectly. A v-neckline culminates at the bust with a trendy metal O-ring and gentle ruching, creating a beautiful shape for your body. Another great option is the Jade Empire Tank from Prego Maternity. The rich jade color is super flattering, and the empire waist emphasis gives this suit a beautiful shape. As practical as it is pretty, the swimsuit is designed with wide adjustable shoulder straps, which ensure excellent bust support during all water activities. Both flattering and functional, a one-piece maternity swimsuit is a fantastic option for the active adventurer!

If one’s dream fall vacation is laying on the beach or by the pool, gently soaking up the sun’s rays, a cute bikini is a fantastic option as it will create minimal tan lines. Seen on such pregnant celebrities as Tori Spelling, Alicia Keys, and most recently Alanis Morissette, a bikini is trendy while still being comfortable. The Black Dot Bikini by Prego Maternity is a stylish and functional option. The dot pattern is very feminine and the rectangular ring design at the bust adds a unique touch. With its adjustable halter top, it can be fitted perfectly to your size. You will want to keep wearing this long after you have given birth! Another gorgeous maternity bikini is the Aqua Ring Maternity Bikini from Belabumbum. Perfect for lounging by the pool or at the beach, this bikini has a dainty floral print layered on top of a flattering aqua blue. The silver O-ring at the bust and on the waist is trendy and unique. With its adjustable halter and back ties, it is both functional and flattering. Bikinis are trendy and sexy, but still maintain a high level of comfort.

For fall vacations, swimsuit cover ups are essential. They provide a great transition from the beach to a low-key dinner or from the pool to game night on the cruise ship. When paired with flip flops, you have instantly created a gorgeous casual outfit. A beautiful option is the Beach Maternity/Nursing Dress from maternity designer 1 in the Oven. Made of a light-weight cotton gauze fabric, this maxi dress is super stylish. The four dainty buttons at the bust provide easy nursing access, ensuring you will get a lot of wear out of it! Pair it with flip flops or gladiator sandals for a cute beach look. Another great cover up option is the Tunic Swimsuit Cover-up from Maternal America. The lightweight cotton fabric ties at the back for a figure flattering look. Whether you are heading to lunch directly after the beach or just strolling around, it is a fashionable and comfortable look!

For a fall vacation, it is important to find the maternity swimwear that works best for the activities you will be doing. By finding a swimsuit that is both comfortable and flattering, you will look and feel your best. Since most maternity swimwear is so stylish, it can be worn long after you have given birth, ensuring you will get a lot of bang for your buck.

Ten Ways to Dress When You Find Out You Are Pregnant

Monday, March 12th, 2012

It might be your first baby or your last but you know what comes next – maternity clothes! Before the carriage and after the glow sets in, your body is going to start to physically change. Here are 10 ways to dress when you find out you are pregnant.

First, try to avoid rushing out and buying all the maternity clothes you can right away. Instead, wait and find ways to refurbish the clothes you already have. Consider things like a belly band from a maternity store, which will help you wear your jeans unzippered. A second thing to consider is buying clothes that are meant for plus sized women. They’ll be comfortable and are often cheaper than maternity wear. Consider these for transitional pieces.

A third option for dressing when pregnant is to buy from a thrift store. Sometimes maternity formal wear can be found second hand for a fraction of the full cost. Maternity clothes are typically only worn during the last three months of pregnancy, and that’s a brief time to buy full price expensive clothing for. A fourth option is to borrow clothing from friends. Moms often get pregnant around the same time. Friends and family might have clothing worth borrowing that’s in good shape.

A fifth choice for dressing when pregnant is to dress with the body’s silhouette in mind. Some shift-like clothing with an A-line or a dress or top with an empire waist that’s actually just beneath the breasts will make the pregnant mom look stunning and will feel comfortable too. And sixth, consider looking into Dad’s closet. Sometimes men’s clothing can be very comfortable. A button up shirt left loose and undone over a T-shirt, or buttoned over a pair of leggings, can look classy if bangles and a choker are added as accessories.

Using layers can help break up the solid size of a pregnant woman’s body. Layers are a seventh option for dressing when pregnant. Layers can be taken off if a pregnant woman starts to get too hot, too. Be wary of looking sloppy instead of sophisticated though, which is often a hazard of the layered look.

Sometimes it may be okay to show skin as well. An eighth way of dressing when pregnant could include continuing to show off great legs and arms and a burgeoning cleavage. It is important to avoid trying to wear old non-maternity clothing though, as this can be painfully constricting as the body swells more and more.

A ninth way of dressing for maternity purposes might include choosing clothing that moms feel comfortable wearing after pregnancy too. When a baby is first born, the mother often has a lot of physical discomfort that can last weeks or even months. Nursing bras will fit during pregnancy too, and maternity wear after pregnancy can ease moms into their new role with greater comfort.

The tenth tip for dressing when pregnant is to remember that the chemicals inside the body are changing to help pregnancy and birth happen naturally. One of these chemicals is relaxin, and relaxin in the body helps joints soften, especially in the pelvis. However, feet joints also spread during pregnancy, so it’s a bad time to consider new high heels. Comfort and safety are always a part of 10 ways to dress when you find out you are pregnant.

Your Guide in Choosing a Great Hair Color

Saturday, March 10th, 2012

Hair is indeed a person’s crowning glory. A person’s hair can tell so much about the person. Whether it is the style, the color, or the length, people are sometimes judged based on how they wear their hair. And for most women and some men, hair coloring is the way to look more attractive and feel more confident. Salons now have hair coloring as a regular offering because more and more people are realizing that a great hair color can instantly change the way they see themselves and as well as how other people perceive them. However, there is no ‘one size fits all’ in the world of hair color. What may look perfect for one person may be unflattering for another. To be able to choose the perfect hair color for you, here are some important guidelines that you should know.

- Contrary to popular belief, it is important to note that to be able to achieve the best results with your hair color, do not match the hair color with the color of your eyes or skin but complement them instead. Matching these colors is believed to make the colors look natural, but having them matched does not necessarily mean it is the best color combination that you can have. Complementing your skin, eyes, and hair color means each color is highlighted and truly brings out the richness of these colors, making you look as perfect as you can be.

- Skin is generally categorized into two tones – warm skin tones and cool skin tones. There are differences when choosing hair color depending on these skin types. A hair color best suited for a warm skin tone, yet placed on a cool skin tone will not end up as beautiful as you might expect and just leave you disappointed.

- Identifying your skin tone is the first crucial step so you can end up with a great hair color choice. If your skin has an undertone of peach or of golden shades, or of brown, then your skin is considered to be of a warm tone. If you have a pale skin with pink undertone, then you have a cool skin tone.

- The color of your eyes should also be considered before you choose a hair color. Warm colors for the eyes are said to be of brown, hazel, blue or green shades. Cool colors in the eye means gray blue or dark brown eyes.

- For hair color, it is important that a cool skin tone and cool colors in the eye are paired with richer hair color. This will add life and warmth to an otherwise cool color aura. For warmer skin tones and warmer eyes, a cool shade of hair color should be used so as to not overwhelm your look with warm shades. If you have warm skin tone, soften it up a little bit by using rich colors such as gold or red. For cooler skin tones, use pure brown shades or black and avoid those even with subtle hues of cool color such as pink or peach.

Maternity Hospital Gowns

Friday, March 9th, 2012

When your contractions quicken and you grab your pre-packed bag and dash off to the hospital, the last thing you want to worry about is whether or not the one size fits all hospital gown will be flattering, or at the very least, comfortable. When giving birth, you want to feel as comfortable as possible and not worry about any of the little things, such as whether or not your gown is covering you properly. One way to alleviate this stress is to bring your own hospital gown with you. This way, you are guaranteed comfort, style, and peace of mind on this incredible day. Two well-known maternity fashion designers, 1 in the Oven and Dear Johnnies, have created comfortable yet fashionable hospital gowns which are sure to make the birth of your child just a little bit easier.

1 in the Oven designs hospital gowns which encompass the most important factors for a comfortable birth, ease and practicality, while maintaining a fashionable and flattering look. One important feature of their gowns is the fabric, something which one should always consider when looking for a gown. Made of 100% cotton, they are incredibly soft. The light-weight fabric makes them easy to move in and ensures that you will not feel bogged down and uncomfortable. With no tags and such soft fabric, your comfort is guaranteed. Having a nursing gown with accessible nursing access is very important, and 1 in the Oven’s designs meet that requirement. Hidden slits in the front provide easy and discreet nursing access, ensuring that nursing your baby will be comfortable and hassle free. Covered by gentle pleats which also serve to create a figure flattering shape, the discreet nursing access is both practical and comfortable. Aside from the high level of comfort which these nursing gowns provide, they also are fashionable and flattering. With a scoop neck and hitting just above the knees, they create a breezy and easy cute look. Whether you choose the long or short sleeve option, you are sure to feel at ease when giving birth.

Dear Johnnies is another brand which exclusively designs hospital gowns. This focus on one item has paid off, as their gowns are practical yet incredibly fashionable. Designed by a mother of three, Dear Johnnies hospital gowns meet all of a new mother’s needs. They ensure that you will be comfortable and at ease while looking and feeling great. Made of 100% lightweight cotton, they are easy to move around in. These gowns are perfect for labor and after, and can be worn around the home as a nightgown in the weeks following your birth. Shoulders snap down for easy nursing access and provide easy medical access, something doctors will appreciate. Snaps down the back, decorated with beautiful ribbon, ensure that you will be completely covered and you will not have to worry about accidentally baring your backside, as is often the case with the standard hospital gowns. Aside from the comfort which these gowns offer, Dear Johnnies are incredibly fashionable. One of their most popular features is the cute patterns which the gowns come in. From pale yellow polka dots to a bright lime green mosaic design, there is a pattern for every woman. These designs, aside from being cute and trendy, brighten up the hospital room. In photos, you will feel confident and beautiful! Whatever design you choose, Dear Johnnies are comfortable, practical, and incredibly stylish.

Whichever hospital gown you end up choosing, make sure you purchase the correct size. If you are ordering online and are unsure about the sizing, contact the store to find out how the sizing is done. One thing to keep in mind is that you want to be comfortable and not be constrained. With this in mind, if you are choosing between two sizes, buy the larger size. A bit of extra fabric will simply add to your comfort and ensure that you do not feel constricted. Overall, bringing your own hospital gown and erase some of the anxiety on this exciting day and will ensure that you are comfortable and feel great while at the hospital.

Fashion Styles: When Trends Just Come and Go

Thursday, March 8th, 2012

Fashion style is one of the many things that changes in just a short period of time. One moment people are going crazy over colored skinny jeans, tomorrow they will be craving for designer rolling briefcases and apparel. The thing there is, people may change their preferences on certain pieces of fashion, but definitely, all of them will always go back to the basic.

Fashion is a never-ending cycle. What is in now may come from long time ago, just making their appearance visible once again. If you can remember it right, super-skinny jeans are people’s favorites like twenty years ago. But before that, bell-bottoms dominated the market. Compare everything to the present situation. The craze for skinny jeans is back, but actually, four years ago, every single kid on the block has a pair of bell-bottom jeans. And If truth be told, the same cycle will be repeated for the next years to come.

Let us go to the cycle of bags. During the 90′s, girls are going gaga over shoulder bags to use when shopping. They come in different colors, accompanied with very long bag straps that can go all the way to your legs. These changed when teenagers as well as young professionals are starting to sport the new star-hand bags and purses. It stayed for quite sometime making the handbag designers filthy rich because some of these can be quite expensive to put it mildly. Years after the fad, shoulder bags are slowly dominating the scene once again.

Even men, who are generally not fond of these apparels, are going the trend as well. From the hand-held briefcases and file organizers, rolling briefcases can also be seen around. Briefcases for men are designed especially for the male population so they can have a trend of their own without having to go with the women’s choices. It will only take a not so long time before the original fad would have to go back.

Shoes are undergoing some rapid changes as well. Some may be patterned to the old school shoes, yet some are evolving into different pieces. With heels that can go as high as 4 inches and even beyond (with the help of platforms), even women who lacks height can solve that issue.

Apparels are also taking a few flashbacks. The past years may be filled with mostly blacks and whites and other non-loud colors, but the past few years, apparels are all about colors going from green, to purple, to hot pink or fuchsia, sunshine yellows, reds among others-the trademark of the year 1990′s.

Fashion styles are never stagnant. In just a couple of years or less, the trend that you thought would last for a very long time will just disappear right before your eyes and will be overthrown by the new kid on the block. It is only a matter of how long will it survive the dynamic surroundings of the fashion world, and will it even leave a mark in the scene, or will it be just another fashion faux pas.

Maternity Swimwear Options

Thursday, March 8th, 2012

Finding the perfect maternity swimsuit can seem like a daunting task for many women, as there are many factors to consider. One wants a suit which is flattering, comfortable, and exemplifies one’s personal style. Luckily for expectant mothers, the market of maternity swimwear has grown immensely and there are a plethora of stylish yet comfy options available. Whether you prefer a bikini, a one-piece, or something in between, you are sure to find a swimsuit which will make you look and feel great.

Maternity bikinis are very popular, as seen on such celebrities in the past as Nicole Richie and Tori Spelling, and most recently on stylish and expectant mother Alicia Keys. Bikinis are a wonderful option as they do not confine the belly at all, allowing plenty of room for your baby bump to grown. Endless comfort is provided, and the style is right on point. One fashionable and incredibly comfy option is the Black Dot Bikini from well-known maternity designer Prego. This suit is adorable, with a cute polka dot pattern and stylish rectangular ring design at the bust. The adjustable halter top is great, as it allows the top to be fitted to each body individually. With the durability and style that Prego is renowned for, it is a great option for expectant mothers. Another gorgeous bikini comes from Maternal America, an always stylish maternity designer who incorporates the latest trends while still maintaining a timeless style. Their Bandeau Bikini is a stunning option, which combines the hot style of the bandeau bottom with the practicality of a halter top. With bottoms that fit comfortably underneath the belly and a convertible halter tie, the suit is easily molded to your shape. Its gorgeous orange color is sure to make a splash! With style and practical features, a maternity bikini is a beautiful option for the expectant mother.

If a bikini shows a bit too much skin for you, a great alternative is a tankini. It combines the belly coverage of a one piece with the two piece design of a bikini. Tankinis are both trendy and comfy, and many designers specialize in this design. One best seller this season is the Jenni Tankini from Maternal America. In its sizzling fiesta print, it is a showstopper. An adjustable tie halter culminates at the bust with a stylish metal ring, creating a beautiful neckline. Side tie bikini bottoms are adjustable, creating a suit that is very comfortable and equally stylish. Another great tankini option is the Nursing Tankini in Black Floral from Belabumbum. It is perfect for maternity and nursing, ensuring you get a lot of bang for your buck. Discreet nursing access is provided by an empire waist band, which also creates a beautiful silhouette. With adjustable tank straps it is easily fitted to your changing body, and the super soft fabric will ensure your comfort all day! There are a multitude of tankini options, all of which exemplify stylish comfort. From the beach to lounging at the pool in your backyard, there is a choice for everyone.

One piece swimsuits have been revamped over the last few years, with details being added that provide a hint of sexiness while still maintaining the comfort and cover which one pieces provide. A one piece is a great option, as you will never be worried about where your top or bottoms are situated. One gorgeous option is the 1 Piece Keyhole Swimsuit from Maternal America. An adjustable halter tie top provides the ability to fit the suit exactly to your body, while the v-neck line flatteringly elongates the body. At the bust is a circular metal ring which provides a finishing stylish polish to the suit. Available in black, pink, and blue, it is a stunning option for a day at the pool! For expectant mothers who would like a bit more bust support, the Jade Empire Tank from Prego Maternity is both stunningly beautiful and very supportive. Its deep jade color and empire waist design are very flattering. Adjustable straps and a hook back bra provide excellent support, making this an excellent option for swimming. A one piece is both stylish and practical, and the many options available allow plenty of choice for the expectant mother.

Overall, maternity swimwear has numerous options available. Whether you prefer a bikini, tankini, or one piece, you are sure to find something that you like. From solid black to bold floral patterns, options abound. Find a swimsuit in which you feel great and are comfortable, and you are sure to be relaxed.

Why Wear a Nursing Dress

Wednesday, March 7th, 2012

I remember trying to shop for a nursing dress 5 years ago soon after my daughter’s birth. My good friend from college had asked me to be her baby’s godmother and participate in her daughter’s baptism ceremony. I rummaged through my closet and found I had absolutely nothing to wear. My “regular” clothes did not fit and my maternity clothes made me look pregnant.

I could buy a dress in a larger size but dresses were impractical for nursing. I looked online in hopes of finding some cute nursing dresses but all I came across were a few frumpy floral nursing dresses that looked like something out of the 1960′s and not the kind Jackie O would wear. I eventually settled for the least frumpy nursing dress I could find, but it definitely was not my style and not super flattering on my postpartum lactating body.

Luckily nursing fashion has come a long way in the past five years. Today’s nursing mothers are especially lucky because there are so many great nursing styles to choose from that you can find your look no matter how casual or dressy you need to be. Here are a few personal favorites in nursing dress styles:

Maternal America’s Nursing Dress is an all purpose stylish nursing dress that doubles as maternity dress. This sleeveless dress is a tank style with wide bra friendly straps. Nursing access is discreet from under the front cross over design. Gentle ruching through the bust gives a flowing stylish look. The ruching below the bust area disguises a postpartum belly or gives plenty of room for an expanding pregnant belly. This dress comes in several colors and can be layered with a cardigan or jacket for cooler weather.

If looking for a softer sleeker look, then check out Japanese Weekend’s Organic D&A Maternity/Nursing Dress. This dress is made from 100% soft organic cotton will stretch where it needs to while hugging your curves. The V neck cross over design is both flattering and easy for nursing. The hem hits above the knee to show a little leg and give an overall chic fit and look. This dress comes in both solid black and earth colors.

If you prefer a casual but elegant style, then take a look at 1 in the Oven’s Beach Maternity Dress. This dress can be worn as a cover-up to the beach or pool or worn simply as a dress to a romantic dinner. The stretchy gauze fabric gives this maxi dress an effortless elegant look that can be worn dressy or casual. The front button closures give easy access for nursing. This maternity/nursing dress comes in white, mud pie or summer blue.
