Phase One Complete

Monday, July 26th, 2010

Phase One of the update to the main site is now complete. The home page and the department pages have all been updated. There are no more banners visible on any of these pages.

Along the way I found several of the programs that I had been participating in had been discontinued or changed. Several of the merchants had changed affiliate networks. There were many broken links in the banner farms.

The next phase will be a bit more work. I have over one hundred info pages, most of which will need to be rewritten. Then there are a few merchants for whom I had never written an info page. These will need to be written up. Of course, some of the original pages are no longer needed, but I will still be formulating around one hundred pages of content for the ‘More Info’ section. I will also be installing the comment system and requesting readers to post their impressions of the sites and to suggest other favorite sites for possible inclusion in my lists. I will develop a new starter page for the info pages and future content pages.

The info pages are necessary to the site plan, but it is the future content pages that are the key to success for the site. When producing the content pages I will be paying attention to basic SEO principles. That will mean keyword research and optimized pages to try to rank some of the pages in the search engines. I will also make some posts on this blog that will also contribute to the content on the site.

The rewriting of the info pages and a few other site tweaks will constitute the major update to the site. The addition of content will be an ongoing effort as well as some external site promotion. I hope to have this site in a decent position for the fall season, so it is important to get the major work out of the way now.

Do you have any suggestions about The Closet Online site? What do you think of the current color scheme (note: the blog is still the old color scheme as of this writing)?

Thanks!

by Dallas Hart

Shop BustedTees.com Today!I am sure that everyone has heard of a popular ways in which you can create tee shirts by a form of printing called “screen printing.” For those of you that are brand new to this type of print it is a pretty simple concept. You will use your paint and squeegee it through fabric in order to create a stencil on a tee shirt. Many people all around the world have discovered this fine art.

Here are four benefits of screen printing:
Screen printed tee shirts are durable. What do I mean by this? Well, the truth of the matter is since the dye is applied to a tee shirt it takes a long time for it to fade or dull. However, when shirts are made by ironing graphics on them, typically will get faded and peel away over time. With these screen printed tee shirts that is certainly not the case at all. They can stand the test of time for quite a long time.

You have the flexibility to scale designs as big as you want them without losing any detail. Well, as long as you have a big enough area to work with. Typically if you are working with computer graphics you can only blow something up so big before you completely pixilate the graphic, and it becomes horrible looking. With screen printing if you have to room for it you can do it.

Shop BustedTees.com Today! It is a very quick process. In fact, the turn around time is incredible. Not just with tee shirts, you can screen print all kinds of items. You can make advertisements, too. Instead of working with a printing press where you will have to pay to run a lot of different prints. However, with screen printing there is typically a very limited amount of minimum prints that you will need to do in order to get a them ran. In fact, some companies will run just one print for you. These prints will cost you a lot less than other prints, as well.

Screen printing is really fun. It is offered in colleges all around the United States. In fact, you can make quite a bit of money screen printing shirts and advertisements. You can take it up as a hobby and actually start creating tee shirts in your basement if you would like. It is a fine art and there is a lot to learn about it.

Some Notes on Bridesmaid Dresses

Tuesday, March 16th, 2010

It’s the month of love once again. Although February is not the time when most couples get married, this is usually the most important day for them. This may even mark the time that they first met, or had their first date. As such, Valentine’s Day is an important day for all couples out there – especially the ones who have plans of making it to the altar and swearing to love their partners before God.

So for all those bride-to-be’s out there, there’s definitely a lot of planning to be done. You need to shop for bridesmaid dresses, wedding cakes and even options for wedding decor – Toronto or elsewhere. If you’re on the voluptuous side, then add to that already long list of tasks the shopping for plus size wedding dresses.

Bridesmaids play an important role in any wedding. In the olden times, they are said to be the bride’s guardians – to fend off evil spirits and bad luck. Today, that is not anymore the case, and so the roles of bridesmaids have also modernized, so to speak. With this, it is important that couples should properly choose their bridesmaid dresses. After all, brides truly have a significant role in the ceremony.

So how should you go about choosing bridesmaid dresses?

Focus on Style

Today, the fashion industry has developed so much that dresses already come in a myriad of designs. This also holds true for bridesmaid dresses.

So when you go shopping for bridesmaid dresses, focus on the style. Check out the body shape of your bridesmaids. Get styles that would be both safe but flattering. Your bridesmaids also need to be elegant on that day, so all the more that they need fabulous bridesmaid dresses.

A-line styles would look great on almost any body type. So if you want to be safe, go for this style. Better yet, when you are not strapped on budget and time, personalize the style of each of your bridesmaid’s dress. That way, all of them will truly look flattering.

Focus on Color

Of course, the color of your bridesmaid dresses should be in line with the motif of your wedding. It would be so hard to change this just so the colors will look good on all of your bridesmaids. But there’s something you can do about this – you can play with accessories and accents.

Play on Fabrics

The kind of fabric that you choose for your bridesmaid dresses could also have a significant role in the look of your entourage. So, you must choose wisely. Among the most common fabrics used for bridesmaid dresses are European satin, iridescent taffeta,, silk, luminescent chiffon and iridescent organza.

You carefully choose who will be included in your entourage. Usually, these are close friends and family members. Therefore, it is just proper that the same care and concern should be given when choosing their bridesmaid dresses. It is just proper that you give careful consideration as to the style, the color and the fabric of the dresses of your “guardians”, your allies.

Wedding Flowers: Which is Which? Looking Beyond Bridesmaid Dresses

Tuesday, March 16th, 2010

There is so much to prepare in any wedding. This is especially true when it is YOUR wedding that is being planned. After all, you wish and want only nothing but the best: the best bridesmaid dresses, wedding dresses and even table decorations – wedding Toronto or elsewhere.

Speaking of decorations, of course you want something that will support the mood of this meaningful event. Your flowers, for instance, should be as colourful and elegant as those bridesmaid dresses. And with the wide variety of flowers that you can use as bouquet, table decoration or church decor, how do you know which one to pick?

This article shall guide you on the most popular kinds of flowers that are being used in wedding ceremonies. It’s important that you choose properly, after all, flowers bring out the life out of a boring venue. Flowers, most often than not, make or break the festive mood of the wedding – in the same way that the design of your bridesmaid dresses would make or break the elegance of your wedding entourage.

So what are among the most popular wedding flowers?

Calla Lilies

Usually coming in white, burgundy, flame and yellow, calla lilies look very elegant – what with its tube-like shape and green long stems. The shape also resembles that of a trumpet, symbolizing victory. Calla lily also means magnificent beauty. It is probably because of this that this type of flower is commonly used as the wedding bouquet.

Not only that, calla lilies are also great as single blooms placed in vases – to serve as table centrepieces in the reception. These flowers are so elegant and symmetrical that whether they are grouped or made to stand alone, they will never fail to express beauty.

Tulips

Tulips are among the most beautiful flowers known to man. They come in almost every color that you can imagine. By using tulips as a corsage, for instance, you don’t have to worry about matching them with the color of the bridesmaid dresses. Regardless of your wedding motif, you will always find a tulip that could match that.

Tulips are also among the most meaningful of flowers. Red tulips symbolize true love, while cream ones speak about endless love. Now, isn’t that not the very thing that you want to communicate in such a momentous affair?

Roses

Of course, don’t forget the all-time favorite flower. Roses have probably seen your relationship grow – being the type of flower used during the courting stage, then the anniversaries. So it’s but proper that you make use of this same flower when you are ready to say “I Do.”

Just like tulips, roses come in a wide variety of colors. Therefore, you don’t have to worry about matching them to your motif – or even to the color of the bridesmaid dresses !

There are still a lot of flowers that would be great entries to your wedding. You have daisies, hyacinths and peonies, among others. Just remember that in choosing your wedding flower, symbolism is important. What would you want your decoration and your flowers to speak of? Once you’re already sure of this, then you will know which type of flower to choose.

Alexander McQueen Mementos: Skull Print Scarves and Armadillo Shoes

Tuesday, March 16th, 2010

The British designer Lee Alexander McQueen was born on March 17, 1969. When news of Alexander McQueens’s death came out shortly after his suicide on February 11, 2010, people suddenly rushed to the stores to get hold of any article that belonged to Mcqueen to keep as a memento. During his relatively short life, Alexander McQueen became known around the world for his unconventional designs and shock tactics. His creations were generally always met with critical acclaim, and he earned the British Designer of the Year award four times.

One such article that literally went flying off the shelves after the British designer’s death was McQueen’s skull-printed scarves. These scarves were one of McQueen’s most memorable creations that were seen sported by the likes of Rihanna, Nicole Richie, Cameron Diaz and Johnny Depp. The skull symbol had been so strongly identified with McQueen that it would be impossible to dissociate the skull from the icon. While it is impossible to predict which of McQueen’s fashion creations will be popular a decade from now, or perhaps even in the next century, if you were to bet your money on something, the skull-printed scarf would not be a bad alternative. Should you find someone willing to take the bet, perhaps it will even make you rich.

Also, among the last creations of McQueen before he died last February 11 was the Armadillo shoes that were part of his 2010 Spring Collections presented last September of 2009. There were many people who were impressed with the structure and architecture of the lobster claw-shaped footwear. Although many were asking if people could actually walk in it as its towering height of 10 inches makes it seem unlikely for anyone to do so. However, style icon Daphne Guinness was first seen wearing the armadillo in public when she attended Nar’s 15th anniversary party in New York. Just how she managed to walk in it baffles a lot of people. To this day, it remains unconfirmed whether the shoes are indeed functional.

In McQueen’s last fashion show “Plato’s Atlantis” where the Armadillo made its first appearance, two of his models were removed from the show for refusing to wear the outrageously high heeled shoes. Nevertheless, after the show, McQueen still managed to make a good publicity out of it as he was swamped with calls all eager to know about the shoes. Lady Gaga was the first to get hold of the shoes and wore it in the music video of her debut single “Bad Romance”.

It is amazing that many women are aching to get hold of McQueen’s Armadillo shoes even if they cost somewhere between $3,900 to $10,000. McQueen explained that his fantastical shoes offered an escape from all the harshness of reality. There are only about 21 pairs available and unfortunately even if you could pay for it the chances of getting one is close to impossible as news of McQueen’s death have triggered more people to take interest in the shoes.

Stop Me and Buy One

Tuesday, March 16th, 2010

I was walking in Notting Hill, West London about four years ago when I was stopped by one of those extraordinarily trendy Japanese women who seem to look good, no matter how ridiculous their outfits. I thought she was going to ask for directions, but, in charmingly Japanese accented English, she asked if I would sell her the denim jacket I was wearing.

I wasn’t offended, or surprised by her request. The jacket is a red tabbed, denim blouson, single breast pocket, with yellow stitching and rear belt. I had stopped a man in Portobello Road two or three years earlier and asked him to sell me the same jacket. I knew it was a desirable Levi vintage of the 40s or 50s and I paid £15.00 ($30.00) for it.

I asked the Japanese lady how much she wanted to pay? She smiled, thought for a minute and replied: £400.00 ($800.00). I was surprised, but I was pretty well off, at the time, I didn’t need the money. I thanked her, very much, we bowed to one another, she giggled and we went off in different directions. I never saw her again.

In the early seventies, having returned from a year in Spain, I arrived penniless on Portobello Road. I crashed with friends and they introduced me to a guy making a good living from recycled denim, bought by the ton, ripped, re-cut and made into coats, jackets and shirts. He and I became friends and eventually partners.

At the time, denim was considered very low-grade by rag merchants, who recycled most of the rags they collected for use as wiping cloths in industry. Denim is not very absorbent, so it was cheap. A ton of washed denim cost us £75.00 ($150.00). In the early seventies it was not the fashion to wear your denim with holes or rips, so the denim we were buying was nearly always in good condition and reusable.

We took it in turns travelling around the UK, visiting rag yards with which we had agreements to sort and save denim. We also bought denim from the USA via a dealer named, Mr Denim. At his warehouse in Croydon, south London, we were allowed to sort through piles of denim pants and denim jackets and, as much of this denim was collected from prisons, large numbers of denim overalls (bib and brace). For each garment we were charged £0.75p regardless of condition. We found many interesting vintage denim garments too and we always had a ready market for those on Portobello Road, where we opened one of the very first stalls selling vintage.

Unfortunately we could never buy enough denim to make into clothing to satisfy our customers. People would queue outside the door of our workshop in Basing Street on the days we received new stock from our machinists and fight over whatever arrived. One of those customers decided to use the name we’d painted on the door in pink paint, but had neglected to register, turning it into a very successful brand name.

One of our very best customers for the denim clothes we were making was an Italian, with a shop in Kensington Market. Years later he became a very successful vintage watch dealer and we have remained friends. A couple of years after the Japanese lady stopped me and asked to by my denim jacket he saw me wearing the jacket and he asked if I would be willing to sell it to him. I told him about the Japanese woman and asked if he would pay more than £400.00? He offered £300.00. He said the jacket was rare, but prices had fallen since the Japanese lady had made her offer. So had the pound sterling against the dollar and £300 then was little more than $450. I thanked him and refused his offer.

I probably would not have sold it for a thousand pounds. Although it is now a little tatty at the edges and faded, I love it. I’m always looking forward to the next offer though.

Smart Lipo – Laser Assisted Liposuction For Body Sculpting

Monday, March 15th, 2010

If you are already fit and healthy, working out regularly and eating properly, it can be very upsetting not to able to shed those stubborn areas of fatty cells. But is it really worth putting your health at risk by having a general anesthetic given the risks associated? This is the dilemma a lot of people used to face. Add to that the significant pain, swelling and bleeding associated with traditional liposuction and it is easy to see why some people avoided it.

But with smart laser liposuction you get all the benefits of traditional procedure with virtually none of the drawbacks. As the entire process is so much less invasive you don’t need a general anesthetic so that risk out is eliminated. Laser treatment involves heat and this causes a number of positive side effects in liposuction. The amount of blood loss and trauma caused to the surrounding tissue is significantly reduced. The heat from the laser will cauterize the wounds thus reducing bleeding and swelling. This means that your recovery time will be so much faster than using the old version. You will be able to treat any pain with over the counter medications rather than the narcotic pain relief usually required by patients treated with ordinary liposuction.

The second benefit of the heat produced by the laser is that it causes a reaction in your body which stimulates the production of collagen. Collagen is the tightening tissue that we all need to keep our skin firm and supple. After having fatty cells removed under the old treatment, skin often became saggy. But due to this production of collagen, the skin will be smoother and usually tauter than before the procedure was done. The extra benefit is that this improvement in your skins texture and appearance continues for the next four to six months.

The less obvious attraction of smart laser liposuction is the fact that some procedures will not require the fat cells to be removed by suction. This does depend on the size of the area being treated, the location on your body and the skills of your surgeon. But for some people this has a physiological benefit as they cannot bear to think of a vacuum pump being used on their bodies.

A huge advantage with smart laser liposuction is the fact that your risk of developing complications and requiring further surgery is significantly reduced. A tummy tuck usually follows traditional liposuction when used to treat this area as the saggy skin has to be removed. But this isn’t necessary when laser is used. Also under the traditional form of treatment, skin infections were not uncommon whereas they are extremely rare with the newer and improved techniques. We don’t yet know if the doctors who are concerned about the effect of fatty cells released by laser assisted liposuction on the liver are justified. Only time will tell but in the meantime the current advantages of the new treatment over the more traditional surgery are significant enough for most people to opt for smart laser liposuction.

Smart lipo, or laser assisted liposuction is fast becoming popular in the field of cosmetic surgery. It has all the benefits of traditional liposuction with much less risk. Learn all the facts before making your decision.
