Keeping Up With the Trends

Tuesday, May 1st, 2012

Trends in fashion change as quickly as they come. By the time one finds out what the new trend may be a new one might have already come about. Fashion can range from things as small as fashionable handmade jewelry and handcrafted jewelry to crazy outfits only people such as lady gaga can “pull off”. The fashion industry is a billion dollar industry. Some people live their life striving to be as fashionable as humanly possible. Having said this however, some people are completely oblivious to the always changing fashion industry. This extreme industry creates millions of jobs around the world.

Although most people jump to the conclusion that the industry is all about the looks and style of the outfits, that is not always the case. It may be all about style in the mainstream runway industry, but when you dig deeper you see that is about providing clothing for every man’s budget. Fashion is definitely about the appearance and style for the most part, but there is another side to the industry that people tend to overlook. It is a well-known generalization that most blue-collar citizens have less interest in fashion than the wealthy and elite have.

In addition to one’s wealth playing a part in the dislike or like of the industry, location is also a big determining factor. For example: someone living in New York City, in the heart of the fashion industry, might have more of an inclination to be involved than someone living in a rural area where the influence of fashion might not be as strong. Another thing is that some people believe that modern fashion is overrated. Some people may think that their fashion is what’s modern. There are so many different kinds of fashion as well. There is runway fashion, which not many people actually wear because of the cost as well as the originality of the outfit. To deal with problems such as these many people make outfits similar to those on the runway, “knock-offs”.

It is common culture in the twenty-first century to aspire to dress similar to and resemble celebrities. Even though this is true it is also common culture to be unique, or to associate with a counterculture. Since so many people have started in on this trend to resist culture and trends they have created their own subculture. This subculture almost defeats the purpose of the intended goal. In the process of trying to be different and not associate with a certain culture they have created one.

Fashion is not only about labels and style it is also about one’s sense of individuality. It is a widely accepted way of expressing oneself. Fashion can be a sense of much-needed relief to anyone that may not have another way of showing who they really are and what they are about. It gives people a sense of freedom and expression that really cannot be expressed in any other way. Giving people this chance is amazing and unlike any other opportunity people have.

Flapper Dresses, And There Amazing Comeback

Friday, April 6th, 2012

During the 20′s, the fashions for women changed to show the growing independence and individualism of females. Before the flapper dresses became very popular, the clothing for women were closely fitted and heavy corsets was worn to given an hour glass figure. Given new independence with voting rights and motor vehicles, women’s lifestyles widened into wild, carefree times depicted during the 1920′s.

Just imagine all the new changes taking place during those years: WWI ended; European jazz had been introduced to the US and women’s professions grew away from general homemaker position, just to name a few. 1920′s flapper dresses are synonymous with that period. The socially mobile females leaped into brand-new careers, mindset and locations. They smoke, drank and spoke their minds. Once life became flamboyant, so did the fashion style as women cast aside the corsets for boyish figures and looser fitting lingerie.

The traditional flapper style highlights most physiques with a loose fit and drop waist. Typical dresses begin with spaghetti, wide or thin straps, with bodice like a tube, short and straight. The hemline reveals long legs, along with hems ending just inches over the knee. These dresses can be adorned with fringe and sequins. The main section of the dress will be a light-weight, breathable material with rows of floating fringe. Several variations may include alternating rows with diverse colored topping or fringe the whole dress with flamboyant sequins, providing a look that is both fun and sexy.

Fashion from this particular decade had been a combination of aggressive and sexy. Women likewise adopted a far more boyish style with short, bob-cut hairstyles as well as downplaying their shape. They would hide their hips and compressed their chests using special lingerie and girdles.

The flapper dress is popular nowadays due to its image, meaning its sexy look, easy style and fun fringe. You can wear this dress to a costume event or holiday party. Remember to wear along with bold accessories such as a long necklace, feather bra or sequined head piece.

Flapper dresses are also a big hit at costume or fancy dress parties, also the 20′s or the roaring twenties are becoming very popular for hip young trendy things from New York to Paris, London to Rome, 1920′s theme parties are springing up everywhere.

However don’t expect the original music from way back when, it’s all Techno, Trance and Electro pop with some ultra cool DJ’s spinning in loops from famous twenties movies and songs, expect to hear some Jazz riffs thrown in too.

If you are lucky enough to get an invite to an event like this there are plenty of places selling or renting authentic flapper dresses.

If money really is an issue it’s also possible to make your own costume or outfit, a quick search online will bring back a few places you can download patterns for making your own flapper dress, be prepared to pay a little bit of money from some of the sites, though usually not more than around $5.00. Although it’s a little bit work you can have an original dress with a bit of thought.

Rare Delights

Sunday, April 1st, 2012

Fashion is a strange beast. It’s essentially cyclical, with similar styles coming back on perhaps a twenty-year phase, albeit with slight modifications and nods to modern tastes. Even styles that were once considered consigned to the dustbin of history can make startling comebacks. Anyone living through the baggy, hippy nineties will remember how outrageously badly eighties’ fashion was perceived to be, only for a very 80s vibe to come back with a vengeance in the mid-nineties. The fact that nineties kids were dressed like their 60s and 70s parents seemed irrelevant to them. (I hope you’re following this, because I need a lie down already.)

But in amongst this slightly predictable style rhythm, there are the looks that got away. A good deal of them are fashion tastes so distasteful that they were conveniently forgotten about when their era’s revival came around. If you think I’m going to fall into the trap of naming them, think again; they may well be included in the re-revisiting or the re-re-revisiting of the look and my credibility will be shattered.

Other revival omissions are a little more mysterious, though. There are some styles that were perfectly a la mode in their day and to a great extent have stood the test of time, but which failed to make the cut second time round. There are chic classics hanging of rails in the nation’s vintage clothing stores that could successfully go back into production thanks to today’s ability to make classic cuts into contemporary looks. And if that isn’t a red rag to a bull, you should probably try naturism as a fashion choice.

Yes, the vintage fashion boutiques and their online brethren should be your first stops for those rare classics that slipped through the corporate net of fashion rebirth. If you think they only sell second hand Levi’s jeans in such places, it’s fair to assume you’ve not visited one for a little while. They are veritable treasure troves of fashion delight! Of course, you’ll have to browse through all the looks that you’re familiar with (and you might even pop a few into your basket as everyday essentials), but every now and again you’ll see something that will make you gasp with pleasure and struggle to stifle the desire to strip off and try it on there and then. You’ll just know that stepping out in that little number will make you a truly unique fashion presence almost anywhere you go.

And such gems aren’t confined to the female market, either. Gents are finally beginning to shrug of the laddish styles that have characterised men’s fashion for over a decade and bring out their inner dandies. It’s so gratifying to know that Laurence Llewelyn Bowen and Jarvis Cocker were right all along!

Now imagine how exciting a time it would be if a more interesting fashion era were to be ushered in not at the behest of the chain stores, but at the almost random finds we made in our ritual roots around the vintage clothing stores. How on earth would future generations repackage that?

Frocks That Rock: The Art of Head-turning Evening Dresses

Monday, March 26th, 2012

That special little number you need for a party or evening function probably causes you more stress than all your other clothing choices put together. There are so many factors to take into account that you might even be wondering if it would be less hassle just not going. But persevere and you’ll find the perfect piece with a little help from this handbag-sized guide, of course.

Your first consideration is of course the nature of the event itself. For a formal business event, it’s best to go for something a little conservative, stylish and modest, but it should also leave a few options open to let you go with the flow. For example, if there’s likely to be dancing, you’ll be glad you didn’t choose something too tight and long; and if there’s food involved, something with a mottled or tweedy print will hide all but the most disastrous spillages and slippages.

Weddings, family birthday parties and other such celebrations allow a more relaxed attitude, but still try and keep it decent! This is probably the toughest call, as you don’t want to appear stuffy and buttoned-up, but you also don’t want to look like you’re on the pull. And even if you are on the pull, you’ve got to remember there will be kids present! It’s a fine line, but experience is quite a good guide here. It’s almost certain that most of us will have been to weddings where certain guests are, let’s say, trying a bit too hard. They stand out a mile and are usually the ones literally dragging people to join them on the dancefloor. So think fun, think celebration and think dancing, but also think of the photographs.

Finally we’ve got the most relaxed evening of all, the girls’ night out. Of course this means different things to different groups of women, but there will probably be a bit of eating, some drinking, lots of laughter, and no doubt a good deal of dancing and flirting going on. There might be a teeny bit of rivalry among you, so it’s vital to get this one right. First rule: know your competition. Think about what your girlfriends normally wear on such occasions and use it as a benchmark to improve upon. Second, know the battleground. If it’s a relatively dignified gathering over dinner and cocktails, you can’t go wrong with a chic little black dress – think Audrey Hepburn and you’ll rarely go wrong (actually, that’s probably a half-decent life rule). If it’s likely to get somewhat wilder, you can really let yourself go, with daring cuts and materials that let you express yourself.

And don’t forget, you don’t have to limit yourself to the high street when you’re looking for that perfect frock. If you’re really dedicated to rocking a certain look, then why not go straight to source and buy yourself some original vintage clothing from one of the many online and side-street boutiques? These are tried and tested looks, and a surprising number of them will definitely have stood the test of time. What’s more, if it’s only going to be worn once or rarely, they are excellent value for clothing with no drop in style or quality.

And finally, always do what your mum says and wrap up warm. That’s one rule you’ll be glad you obeyed.

Black Sheath Dress Anytime of the Day

Monday, March 12th, 2012

There are a lot of dresses that you can choose from. But if you are looking for a more sophisticated look then buying your new black sheath dress will do the trick for you. You will not only have that formal dress you have been looking for but this dress can be your business suit in another day. What is good about this dress is that it accentuates your waistline and flatters those hour glass figure. It is created in different necklines such as, jewel, sweetheart or v-neck and it is also created in different lengths catering to different types of body. Experimenting on the different ways on how to spice up your sheath dress is also advisable.

A sheath dress is perfect as a formal dress but make sure that it will not look too revealing when you’re wearing it. As a dress for work, don’t wear something that has bold prints on it and be sure that it is formal and corporate as possible. Wearing blazers on top of it will look more appropriate and stylish. Good thing about this dress is that it creates the idea that the woman has long legs. Pairing your dress with high heels will even be more effective, since not only will your dress emphasize your body the shoes will also help in flattering the curves of your legs and feet. If you are more concerned in giving emphasis on the curves of your body, then adding some belt on your waist will be a big help.

On the other hand, if you are very trendy and you want to be more chic wearing cardigans or jackets will be perfect. The fitting illusion of the dress is created for cardigans and the like. The elegance of the dress will be more appreciated if different accessories will go with it. A black sheath dress will help create a perfect combination for a metallic brooch or pearl jewelries. Other color for a sheath dress will be nice if you are using it as a party dress. Using scarves or any neck piece will make your outfit complete. You can be go from simple to classy if you wear your dress with a turtle neck beneath it for the cold season. While using a t-shirt underneath it can be a good way of improvising a simple jumper. Your dress can just be a simple skirt if you wear a short or any top plus a sweater on top of it. You can have 2 or 3 outfits in one dress, that is why every woman are dying to get their own sheath dress.

Your sheath dress can flatter the best parts of your body, which is why it is important to get one for yourself. If you feel ugly or down on a certain, wearing a sheath dress will surely remind you of the beauty you’ve got. Learn to experiment and from there you’ll learn the different alternatives a sheath dress can offer. You will definitely realize that a dress can still be another clothing with just a simple imagination.

The Maxi Dress: Choice Frock of the Carefree Goddess

Monday, March 12th, 2012

Trends come and go. Some tend to stay while others seem too dated to take a permanent position in one’s wardrobe. One great thing about the trends that are here to stay is that one can constantly be innovative and adapt it to the current fads.

One trend that is highly suggested to give a try is the maxi dress. These floor-grazing frocks are perfect for those who want to feel that laidback boho-chic style.

It can take a certain amount of guts to pull off this trend, especially since it does make a statement on its own even with lack of accessories. Although the common notion is that maxi dresses are simply for the tall and willowy, there are ways for those of a different body type to be able to pull off the trend and look utterly put together. Upon choosing, one must be careful with the length. Buying one that’s too long can overwhelm the figure, making it look like it is much shorter than it really is. To add to one’s height, pair the dress with heels such as wedges or platforms. Never pair the maxi together with cowboy boots because that trend is over and will make one look tacky now.

If one is mindful of her stomach or is feeling bloated, then consider choosing the dress with an empire line to cover everything, hiding the body starting below the chest yet still manage to look elegant. For women with an apple shaped figure, try to avoid the maxi dresses that have a gathered waist and opt for the empire cut as well. It is best to wear the maxi that skims over the body rather than the clinging type to avoid looking lumpy.

Never over-accessorize the maxi especially with a belt because it tends to ruin the length of the dress and break it up into chunks that may end up looking bulky and strange.

Prints on the maxi also tend to determine as to whether it would work on someone or not. A bright floral-print maxi can certainly overwhelm a petite frame while horizontal lines across the dress tend to make any body type look wider than it normally is.

Curvaceous ladies are suggested to wear block colors or go monochromatic for that slimming effect. The best shades would be of the darker side of the palette.

Maxi dresses aren’t meant to be layered. If a cover-up is a must, then opt for a simple shrug or a cropped cardigan or a short-fitted jacket.

Since summer is the best time to bring out the maxi dresses, opt to wear it with oversized vintage shades and tote along an oversized bag for that overall superstar effect.

The maxi dress is typically great for the beach, but it can also be worn in the city. It can also be a very Hollywood glamour choice when worn at formal affairs if it’s the right material and design. So go ahead and don that utterly chic and elegant maxi. When pulled off perfectly, it can make any woman feel like a carefree goddess.

Woman’s Belt and Fashion

Monday, March 12th, 2012

What does a woman want in fashion? What is the best accessory for them to highlight their assets? Women always take time in choosing things compared to men. They are the ones who take an extra look of things and details in almost every aspect of their life. They simply want to stand out among all others and be more beautiful than anyone else. They usually overspend in attaining the beauty they wanted to be. Naturally, women tend to buy couple of different kinds of things. It may be shoes or dress or it could be anything. As long as they want them, they would try to do everything to have them even it cost them greatly. However, there are lots of women who don’t have the same luxury as everyone else does. Many among all women tend to feel sad whenever they can’t buy the things they love. But there are ways to still look good and yet doesn’t need to spend that much. All we need is a little of imagination and creativity that even it does not cost that much but still the need of every woman are being met.

One accessory that a woman is very particular with is a woman’s belt. There should be different kinds of belt found in the wardrobes of every woman on this planet. A woman’s belt may look little but it poses great importance in fashion. Different belts have different effects on the looks of a woman. It helps them on emphasizing their hips and also it aides in them in having a trim physique. Choosing the right belt poses great importance. Every detail should be considered to have whatever look they may want to have. First thing to consider is choosing the right woman’s belt is its buckle. Buckles can be bought together with the belt. But there are some women who don’t settle for that. Do whatever adjustments that you want as long as it compliments to whatever you are wearing. Try it on while wearing your pants. This helps you to have a clear picture on the adjustments you may want to impose. In getting the perfect buckle, the key is on the right size and shape. Try to see to it that it match your jeans or skirts of any sort. It doesn’t need to cost that much. Perfect matching is essential in choosing the best buckle you may want to have.

Perfect sizes of belts are one of the things to consider. Size of belts may vary according to whatever trends of fashion there is. Latest trends involves big sized belt and buckles. Designers decided not to limit its framework. It could be either wide belts of narrow. Wide belts are worn by most women up until today. Dressing up in fashion is essential for every woman. It is only natural for them to be this way. It is a choice a woman should make. Just don’t be too hard on yourself in following this principle. Dress up right and see to it that you are comfortable in whatever you are wearing. We must remember that it is still better to look who we really are rather than who we wanted to be. The key to fashion is to look good on yourself.

How to Have an Edge in Fashion

Monday, March 12th, 2012

Fashion is not only limited to clothes, bag or shoes. It includes choosing the right accessory that would fit to every single one of them. It should compliment to every item you are wearing. It doesn’t have to cost much either. Having lots of money can maybe give you an edge on things but using your imagination and creativity would also do the trick. You just have to pair things up and choose the most appropriate accessory for your outfit. One of the most well known accessories that would help you achieve excellence is through fashion belts. It is created mostly for women who simply wanted to look beautiful. Fashion belts are accessories that would make every outfit look even more elegant and stylish. It is also one great fashion investments that you may want to keep into your wardrobes.

Fashion Belts comes with any colors and styles that would all fit into a woman’s shape. One specific type of belt that I personally love is the studded belts. Rock stars wear this specific type of fashion belts. Belts of such are made of leather with studs that gives it an accent. They are usually darker in color compared to other types of belts which also gives the wearer a strong type of personality. Studded belts are worn along with other pieces of accessories like layers of silver necklaces and bracelets. This would help them compose a strong character which illustrates a real rock star.

The studs could also be made of something other than silver. It could be gold, chrome or crystal as long as it pleases the wearer’s style and taste. Some women are fund of doing some experiments and actually make something new out of what it is. You could something for yourselves too. You can start from buying a simple belt which is readily available at your local stores. I suggest you go visit them and decide right then and there. These studded belts are both good on parties and bar hopping. Informal events like going out with your friends are appropriate with this kind of belt.

Wanting to have a rock star punk look doest really mean that you have to appear intimidating or frightening. It should always reflect the personality and character of the wearer. Same thing goes to every type of fashion. You don’t have to be somebody else just because you are wearing something. The most important thing is that you are comfortable with it. No matter what style of clothing you choose, just be yourself. Do not let trends of fashion limit you or direct you on what you should wear or what you should not. Doing this would conceal your true and innate beauty. They key for looking good is feeling good. You can start from here and do some experiments. Be creative and if possible, ask for help from your friends. This way, you will not only achieve the looks you always dreamed of but also can serve as a way to bond with your dearest friends.
